This is a winter oil painting called "Dry Creek Bed." It is a location in Colorado featuring winter trees and shrubs. I painted it during a drought year, so there was no water in the creek bed, just a sandy bottom. In the southwest red willow shrubs thrive along creeks and marshes and other water areas. They bring a spot of bright color to an otherwise dull winter scene.
My name is Karla Beatty. I am a painter and an illustrator for books, magazines, and the internet. My work covers a wide range of topics: landscapes, portraits, gardens, botanicals, travel, urban sketching, and more. Most of my work is in oils, acrylics, watercolors, graphite, carbon dust, and digital images. Much of my art is connected to travel adventures and experiences. A good portion of my paintings are created on location or plein air. Some of my work is from photographs where I paint, draw, sculpt, and spend way more hours than I intend to on the computer making digital art. All images ©2000-2015 Karla Beatty. All rights reserved.
