This is a vintage map of Ireland with old woodcut prints, "Cork to New York." The map is dated from 1797. The two images date from early to mid-1800s. The images are woodcut prints, not photographs, because photography simply had not been invented yet! One shows emigrants preparing to leave their families and friends. The other, titled "Departure," shows the passengers on the steamship as it is leaving the dock.
My name is Karla Beatty. I am a painter and an illustrator for books, magazines, and the internet. My work covers a wide range of topics: landscapes, portraits, gardens, botanicals, travel, urban sketching, and more. Most of my work is in oils, acrylics, watercolors, graphite, carbon dust, and digital images. Much of my art is connected to travel adventures and experiences. A good portion of my paintings are created on location or plein air. Some of my work is from photographs where I paint, draw, sculpt, and spend way more hours than I intend to on the computer making digital art. All images ©2000-2015 Karla Beatty. All rights reserved. Copying and/or distributing these images without my permission is strictly prohibited.
