This is a vintage map of New York City with vintage photos of Ellis Island and two immigrants. The map dates from the late 1800's, the photos from around 1905-1915. Two children immigrants have just arrived at Ellis Island. Likely they spoke no English and there are numbers pinned to their clothing. They look exhausted and overwhelmed, but it looks like the girl has a balloon and, like children everywhere, will soon be in the fun of it.
My name is Karla Beatty. I am a painter and an illustrator for books, magazines, and the internet. My work covers a wide range of topics: landscapes, portraits, gardens, botanicals, travel, urban sketching, and more. Most of my work is in oils, acrylics, watercolors, graphite, carbon dust, and digital images. Much of my art is connected to travel adventures and experiences. A good portion of my paintings are created on location or plein air. Some of my work is from photographs where I paint, draw, sculpt, and spend way more hours than I intend to on the computer making digital art. All images ©2000-2015 Karla Beatty. All rights reserved.
